It was all Mules on Saturday as they whipped Emporia State 42-14 at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field.  The Mules, who had eight starters out because of injury, dominated in all three phases of the game.  The Mules defense, torched by Pittsburg State just two weeks ago, was stingy on Saturday in allowing just 288 yards.  Offensively the Mules jumped out to a 42-0 lead and never looked back.  Eric Czerniewski continued his strong play in going 14 of 19 for 283 yards and 4 touchdowns.  For the season Eric has an impressive 18 touchdowns to 1 interception, just an amazing season to this point for the junior quarterback.

Now the Mules turn their attention to the Bearcats of Northwest Missouri State -- aka  “The Big Green Machine” -- in a battle for 1st in the MIAA.  The Mules come into the game 3-1 in the league, ranked 17th in the nation and 5th in the region while Northwest comes in at 4-0 in the league, ranked 5th in the nation and 3rd in the region.  The Bearcats have won 23 straight MIAA games and have been to the national title game 3 straight years.  They have the number one scoring offense and they have one of the best defenses in the country, so obviously the Mules are a big underdog at best and really have no shot in this game.

That’s what conventional wisdom will tell you, but I’m here to tell you why the Mules maybe able to upset the Bearcats on Saturday.

Top Ten Reason Mules Can Upset Bearcats

10. The Mules defensive backfield has cleared up some problems with the deep pass and there is a slight chance we may get some people back from injury.

9. This is the 4th straight game away from home for the Bearcats. I don’t care who you are….that’s extremely tough.

8. Charlie Stubbs…Big Time Offensive Coordinator, period

7. Greg Nesbitt…..Big Time Defensive Coordinator, period

6. Willie Fritz…..One of the best ever in the MIAA

5. Czernewski...as said before, 18 Touchdowns to 1 interception--Is there anyone better?

4. The Mules Defensive Line…They are big, fast and deep.  They can make anyone a one dimensional team.  Coach Clemons has done a great job with this group.

3. Glenn Milner….Big, strong and fast.  Is he going to run the ball or catch the ball?  No one knows until it’s too late

2. Demarco Cosby…Finally a tight end that is a major threat. You better know where he is at all times.

And the number 1 reason we can beat the Machine…..Home field advantage.   Nine thousand strong last week clearly flustered the Hornets.  All of Maryville will be at this game so we need a huge crowd once again to root the Mules on to victory.  Kick off is set for 1:30; airtime is 12:10 on 1450 KOKO, 98.5 The Bar and Warrensburgradio.com

Go Mules!!!!!!!!!!
