Mules Report Archive

We've found an O-Line!

That's right Mules Fans, word on the street is that our O-Line figured things out and are now dominating the line of scrimmage. It couldn't come at a better time entering MIAA play.

Apparently they're not the only ones dominating the line of scrimmage. The Mules defense completely stuffed the Golden Bears run game allowing for a net -4 yards rushing. The Mules D has only allowed a total of 3 net yards rushing in two games.

Having faced the best QB in the North Central Conference and then the best QB in the Northern Sun Conference in back to back weeks, look for the secondary to have a field day against Truman's QB Ticich.  He may have piled up some stats against inferior competition, but will be harassed all day long by both the Mules rush and the pick-happy secondary.

This Central team will win a lot of games if the offense can get back to where it was a few years ago scoring in the 30-40 point range per game. I'll go out on a limb and say that Central will not lose a game it scores 35 or more in for the rest of the season.

We also found a kicker.  Marcelo Velazquez was the MIAA Special teams Player of the Week for his performance against Concordia St. Paul. He came 1 point shy of tying the MIAA record for points scored by a kicker in a game. Velazquez was a perfect 4 for 4 on FGs and 6 for 6 on XPs. The Blue Springs product is also a transfer from Truman State. I wonder if the Bulldogs are missing him about now?

Some things to look for this Saturday...

* LOOK FOR TRUMAN TO THROW THE BALL DEEP - If it were not for giving up the deep ball, the Mules defense would be near perfect.

* LOOK FOR A BIG SPECIAL FORCES PLAY - The coaching staff is high on this unit this year. Sure the punting has been excellent. Yep, we've found a kicker. The big play on special forces that I refer to is a blocked kick or a kick return for TD.

* LOOK FOR THE MULES TO CONTINUE TO DOMINATE THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE - The Bulldogs may be coming in at 2-0, but their level of competition has been significantly lower that that of Central. The dominance should occur on both sides of the ball.

* LOOK FOR GLENN MILNER TO GET HIS FIRST 100-YARD RUSHING GAME - The Bulldogs have given up more yards per rush than any team in the MIAA (over 5 yards per carry) and that was against the likes of Upper Iowa and Missouri Rolla.

Most of all, LOOK FOR THE MULES TO GO 2-1 0N THE SEASON (1-0 IN THE MIAA) and for QB Eric Cziernewski and Company to continue to get better every game.

Thank you Coach Fritz and staff for the great non-conference schedule. Most of us true fans would rather be 1-1 right now against good competition than 2-0 against Dakota State and Lincoln and lose out on a shot at the playoffs due to strength of schedule. These two non-conference opponents have the Mules ready for MIAA play.

Meet ya'll on the High Ground...
